Right now we have a L96 and a MK96. Both are bolt action rifles with excellent internals.

What kind of rifle do you have Empty
PostSubject: Re: What kind of rifle do you have   What kind of rifle do you have EmptyTue Apr 21, 2009 6:51 pm

The important part is not the designation of the a L or a MK infront of the 96. More important are the Brands and manufacturs. Rember many of these rifles are the same, yet rebranded. I'll do my best to rember the diffrences and give a bit info on there replica acuracy.

Real Steal backround check......

First off, most "L96" rifles are not replicas of the famous Accuracy International L96 Sniper rifle (AWP) used by the Brits and Canadians as well as the one made famous by the game CounterStrike. What they are are replicas of the Accuracy International AE Rifle which is a police/civilan law enforcement specal purpose bolt action marksman rifle. Heres a link to the rifle that most airsoft rifles are modeled after. http://world.guns.ru/sniper/sn52-e.htm . Here is a link to the REAL L96 http://world.guns.ru/sniper/sn06-e.htm . Difrences are noticable in the stock barral lengh and muzzle brake,. Also the AE is only chambered in 7.62x51 while the true british L96 AWP uses one of the best rounds ever created for long range sniping, the .338 Lapua. I always beleave that if your going to field an airsoft rifle you sould know what it is based off of and why it is designed the way it is.

Now for the airsoft backgound

Tanaka L96 - This is one of 3 true L96 rifles. It was and still is the STANDARD for GAS L96 rifles and was based off there M700 gas system incorporated into a beutyfuly replicated L96 recever with modified bolt and mag. This is an extreamly well made rifle and carry a price upwards of 600 dollars for pre ban models and 500 dolars for new of the shelf models. As a side note, Tanakas have notoriusly poorly designed hopup units with the L96 as an exception. The newer tanaka L96 models (with a designation of ACM or ACMP or something like that) have some extreamly accurate hopup units. Only problem is there are no hop up rubbers avalable for them, lol. You have to buy a new rifle to replace the hop up or get a full aftermarket hop up unit with houseing to use standard buckings. Even with these shortcommings, this is a beast of a rifle weighing in at 12 lbs without a scope mounted if i rember correctly. These rifles are powerfull. Shooting between 400 and 600 FPS depending on the gas that is used. They are prone to magaine damage with higher pressure gas. http://www.airsoftgi.com/product_info.php?cPath=139_113&products_id=4238

Star L96 - Here is an example of another beutyfull high end L96 with some difrences from the Tanaka such as the hopup units and a reworked gas system where the gas stored in the bolt. This is not as easy as the Tanaka to reload and refill and for the most part, rifles with gas bolts are usualy less concistant and harder to set up with a HPA system which is the only way to make a Gas rifle shoot dead on evey shot. This model even comes in the folding stock version which i have to admit is probably the best I have seen. As as side note, the it is rumored that the stock is accualy made by Accuracy International, the manufaturs of the REAL STEEL rifles. Its about as good as it gets (stock wise), again the price reflects that. As far as I know, this rifle is no longer avalable, but it seems that the Green Beret has one, go figure. http://www.airsoftcanada.com/showthread.php?t=33087

Ares L96 - This is a new rifle on the market. Ares has been puting out some amazing stuff lately starting with there DSR-1, which had its share of problems, but aparently those problems are not shared with the L96. This is for the most part an upgraded Tanaka clone without the problems of the Tanaka and is priced respectively. This is the L96 I would own if I wanted a gas rifle in the L96 class. http://www.airsoftgi.com/product_info.php?cPath=139_113&products_id=2570

Maruzen APS TYPE 96 - This is the grandfather of all SPRING powered L96/AE rifles. All L96 upgrades are built for this rifle. I will repeat that becuse its important ALL L96 UPGRADES ARE BUILT FOR THIS RIFLE. It has one of the finest L96/AE replica stocks avalable for a spring rifle and is fiber reinforced and just great on the hands. It feals heavy, and well built becuse it is. Maruzen is to the L96 what Tokyo Marui is to the VSR. Eveyone has cloned this rifle. Some have done it well, others have not. All the internals are well built for the stock power but still need upgrades for higher powers. http://www.airsoftgi.com/product_info.php?cPath=139_113&products_id=773

What kind of rifle do you have Empty
PostSubject: Re: What kind of rifle do you have   What kind of rifle do you have EmptyTue Apr 21, 2009 7:22 pm

Sorry for double post, problem with the long txt system in this forum......

TSD, UTG (posably others) - These are EXACT Maruzen clones. When you talk bout the MK96, these are the rifles you are talking about, and by the way, they are the same rifle rebranded. It is possable that TSD has started using metal trigger boxes but I cant confirm that. I know that UTG used to come with plastic triger boxes limiting there upgradeablitly without replaceing the trigger box with a Zero Triger or a PDI unit. However if you are buying a L96 style rifle and are on a budget, THESE ARE THE ONES YOU WANT. All the Maruzen APS L96 upgrades work in these rifles. They are what the BAR 10 is to the VSR, sort of. (Bar-10 rifles are still better manufactured). http://www.airsoftgi.com/product_info.php?cPath=139_113&products_id=2119

Well Warroir 1 MB01 / 02 / 04 /05 - This is very simular to the UTG but aparently with a better hopup unit (V hop) and metal triger box and some other upgrades. There are some specific diffrences which I cant rember right now from the UTG, Maruzen clones but it is essenaly a decent quality clone. The reason I put this one by itself is becuse Well has done something cool by taking this recever and placeing it in a new stock for the MB04 and MB05. http://www.airsoftretreat.com/reviews/showproduct.php?product=275&cat=38 . Again, research this one before buying just to be on the safe side, but all in all , it should be a good buy anyone looking into an L96. All APS L96 parts should work with this rifle if I rember.

AGM L96 MB002 - AGM rifles are first the least costly of Maruzen clones and are resonably powerfull out of the box. AGM rifles are not true maruzen clones. They derive there power from a VSR style bolt and use a VSR style triger box with modified sears. While this may sound tempting at first, dont be fooled, they are a pain in the ass to upgrade since there are esentualy a modifed VSR in a L96 body. They even used a modified VSR recever . You would think, hey no problem, Ill just upgrade with VSR parts, wrong. The cylinder is longer, the mags are diffrent, the piston is diffrent etc.. AGM rifles are easy to identifly as they bolt stop, the part behind the handle, is rounded not square. They also use a G-spec style padle bold handle. I do not recomend these if you plan on upgrading unless you know EXACTLY what your doing. If you realy want to read this this first. http://www.airsoftretreat.com/reviews/showproduct.php?product=228&cat=77 . And here is the AirsoftGI link http://www.airsoftgi.com/product_info.php?cPath=139_113&products_id=3688

Bottom line here is, Know what you are buying and do your research before you purchace as you never know what your geting unless you look ahead of time. Just becuase two rifles look simular, they are not and there is a reason some cost more. The old saying is true, you get what you pay for and only a fool DOSEN'T look a gift horse in the mouth becuse if its too good to be true, it probably is.

The only reason I did this little write up on the L96 models is becuase there are so many diffrent types in the airsoft world. There is only one airsoft version of the Cheytec and its made by Ares as you already know. Google "Ares Cheytec M200" for the airsoft info and "Cheytec M200 Intervention Rifle" for real steal info.
